Austin Carrizales

My name is Austin Carrizales, and I’m a born and bred Texan. I was raised in Lubbock, and my family has lived and worked in West Texas for several generations.

My Story

After graduating from Lubbock High School, I attended Texas Tech University and majored in political science. During my undergrad years, I was honored to have the opportunity to have been a member of the legendary Saddle Tramps, keepers of Texas Tech traditions. I also worked full-time as a banker for Wells Fargo Bank while attending college.

During my senior year at Texas Tech, I interned for Congressman Henry Cuellar in Washington D.C. During my time in D.C., I was tasked with legislative research and memo preparation, and I served as a liaison to various committees and the United States Senate.

By the time I completed my bachelor’s degree in political science, I was accepted to Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock. However, I wanted to ensure I remained focused on service, so I enrolled in the dual degree program to obtain my master’s in public administration along with my law degree. While attending law school, I served as the executive managing editor for the Journal of Biosecurity, Biosafety and Biodefense Law. I also clerked for the De Leon Law Firm of Houston where I worked in commercial litigation and oil and gas law.

In terms of service, I was the treasurer for the Tech Law Military Association and alumni relations chair for the Hispanic Law Students Association. I also volunteered my time and skills as an ambassador by serving as a member of the Student Recruitment Council at Tech Law. I am a trained mediator through the Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic. In 2013, I earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence and a master’s of public administration from Texas Tech University, and I also received a Certificate in Biosecurity Law. I was recently published in the Journal of Biosecurity, Biosafety and Biodefense Law for my article over emergency response plans during terroristic situations.
